It's rare to see photos on here of meerkats in their natural habitat. Great photo!

I thought you used Nikon? Your EXIF says a Canon 7D here :P

Nice work, and great DOF control. I'm not sure if i'd have preferred the other meerkat in focus though

Thanks. Unfortunately they didn't stick around in this pose long enough for me to dial down to f11 and try to get them both sharp ;)

I used Canon until July 2011 :)

Oh yes. I can imagine!

Ah ok. What made you switch? The 200-400?

the D3s...low light capabilities...
initially I wanted the 200-400mm but after careful consideration of my primary shooting needs I decided on the 500mm f4 (plus some other shorter lenses).

Oh yes.. that's the other huge draw.

Oh really? Isn't the 500 F4.0 a complement to the 200-400? What do you have that's shorter?

It's a complement if you can afford both :)
If I use the 70-200mm on a DX body like the D7000 I'm on 300mm effectively, so I find I'm not really missing the 400mm focal length too much. ;)

That's true. They're both insanely expensive..
Yeah. That's true. The 70-200 on DX is a great complement to the 500 F4.0 on FX
