Ah ok. What made you switch? The 200-400?
initially I wanted the 200-400mm but after careful consideration of my primary shooting needs I decided on the 500mm f4 (plus some other shorter lenses).
Oh really? Isn't the 500 F4.0 a complement to the 200-400? What do you have that's shorter?
If I use the 70-200mm on a DX body like the D7000 I'm on 300mm effectively, so I find I'm not really missing the 400mm focal length too much.
Yeah. That's true. The 70-200 on DX is a great complement to the 500 F4.0 on FX
